Vancouver Airport

Well...I arrived at the Vancouver International Airport a few days ago...

The airport in Vancouver has on display some of the world's finest art by famous Northwest Coast aboriginal artists .... like these Salish house posts in the International arrivals hall....

These poles were so nice...I wish I could take them back to Japan with me!

I also thought that this ring was really nice, too.
If you look carefully... you can see that the ring is set on stone and that there is water falling behind it...

The images on this ring are traditional and they represent flight.
The eagle, which is considered a symbol of power, is designed around the image of men whose arms are raised.

These men on the ring are welcoming visitors to Vancouver.
If you look on the men's chests ... you can see images of salmon.
The salmon represent the Coast Salish people who still live and fish in Vancouver.

Beautiful, isn't it?

The Moose Hunt...

Well.....
This week we saw Lars arguing with his wife about the factory.

His wife was so angry with him that she threw him out of the house.

Lars didn't know what to do so he called his brother and he came to pick him up.

After Lars' brother picked him up they drove to an old house which they had inherited.

When they got to the house a ghost started watching them from the window...
What is the ghost going to do...come to class and find out...

We also introduced a new vocabulary board game this week called "Curse of Ayako"....It was a lot of fun and maybe we will play it again soon...

Also...New Game ....Coming Soon...to some classes...

Let's Sing....at Canadian Voice!!

Christmas 2012

Well...Christmas is right around the corner...
and to get into the Christmas mood...
I want to sing a Christmas song or 2 this year...

Here is a short song that some classes will be singing together...

I listened to a few versions of this song on youtube and the first time I heard this one.....
I thought....
This is the one...
So....Let's try....

Kumaki san gave us a tour of the new school in Kawanakajima yesterday...

Here are some pictures of the 2nd floor....

As I was walking around I was surprised at how good everything looked and at how much wood had been used.

Kumaki san has been very nice and has taken care of us very well.
I have been more than satisfied with his effort.....

If you are ever THINKING about having a house built in Nagano...
I would recommend that you go to Kumaki...

I also think that the building techniques here  are much different than those in Vancouver...

I took this picture of a house that was being built last year in my old neighbourhood
in Vancouver ....

And no...this is not a picture of my parent's house...

However...THIS is a picture of my parent's house...

What do you think?

Christmas Story 2012

Well...I am so happy that the Christmas season is finally here...
I look forward to making Christmas stories every year... and I finally decided on the weekend what I was going to do this year.

We started the 1st Christmas lesson with a quick practice of the "不規則動詞" and pronunciation before moving into the story.

In the story...I think the 2 hardest things were the listening practice and imagination.
But some people had some really good ideas....

The story also had a few tough words in it but other than that I think everything went OK.
Here is a short list of some of the vocabulary words that came up this week....

A man who stands out...Week 1

This week we will start a story about 2 women who are on their way to work.
It is rush hour so the train is very crowded.

While the women were chatting about work, they noticed a man who really stood out.....

This week ....Will be a busy week...

As you can see, there will a lot to do in 1 hour....

We will:
* see a train station with "good manners"
* see the 2 women riding on the train
* see a train station with "bad manners"
* see part of a recent article from Tokyo about manners on trains
* do some listening practice ~ a story about a woman who cuts in line at the station
* go back to the 2 women on the train and we will meet the man

Wow....Good luck!

New Canadian Voice Update....

Ayako and I had to go to the new school on Saturday to meet the designers.
They wanted to talk to us about where to put the outlets and light switches.

When we arrived, the designers gave us a tour around the inside of the new school and they showed us where they were planning on putting each outlet and light switch.

Ayako and I both agreed that everything we saw looked good....so the electricians will be coming in to start the electrical work...very soon....

Just in case some of you are wondering.....
The company that is building the school is "Kumaki Juuken"

You can see one of there signs on the left side...

Thank you "Kumaki Juuken" for being so helpful and patient with us....
